about
I like to think Spike had a massive moment of realization regarding the apparency and transparency of his feelings for Rarity when she shushed him while they were both falling to their (supposed) doom together. He would have had a sudden realization that she (1) knew about his feelings, and (2) had some reason for shushing him and preventing him from voicing said feelings to her.
Was it to prevent an awkward situation? If so, why was she crying? Was it because Rarity herself was unsure of her feelings, or perhaps because she felt he was too young for her? It’d be nice if Rarity would just say SOMETHING to him, but instead, everyone remains silent.
This song is about Spike realizing the entire situation is more perhaps even more complex than expected with Rarity seeing through him and his feelings, and realizing his accidental transparency in the situation might have caused more harm than good.
lyrics
(Verse 1)
you’re too unpredictable, just parts of you
I sit and stare just basking in the thought of you
and I can see I’ve caught the corner of your eye
And I can tell I’ve been caught in a silent lie
and maybe I've tried to breach the subject
but you'd hear nothing of it
but I know I’m in the back of your mind
and I hope it’s just a matter of time
(Prechorus 1)
Why won't you just tell me?
(Chorus 1)
am I gonna waste away
letting you set the date and the time
don’t know why you’re away
when you should’ve been mine
are we gonna pull through
when you don’t have it easy
you see right through me
why should I expect
any less from someone like you
you’re too reckless
and I should’ve been through with this
'cause we don’t have it easy
you see right through me
(Verse 2)
You’re too clued in to this, you know too much
it’s rough when you’re dealing with these parts of love
and I can see you’re caught in between
the things you know and things you feel
and maybe I’ve tried to bring up with you
you’d hear nothing of it still
so I guess you don’t know what to do
but I hope you know it’s hard on me too
(Prechorus 2)
Why won't you say something?
(Chorus 2)
am I gonna waste away
letting you set the date and the time
don’t know why you’re away
when you should’ve been mine
are we gonna pull through
when you don’t have it easy
you see right through me
why should I expect
any less from someone like yo u
you’re too reckless
and I should’ve been through with this
cause you don’t have it easy
you see right through me
(Bridge)
this silence is grating on my nerves
I don't know what you hear or what you heard
but I hope you find an end
because life, it gets a little hard
when things don't ever get too far
and when you don't ever breach the subject
I don't know what you're feeling
why won't you say something?
(Chorus 3)
am I gonna waste away
while you figure out what you want
don't know why this time
feels like it just stopped
are we gonna pull through when you
don't have it easy
you see right through me
Why should I expect
any less from the thoughts in my head
tear me up, pull me down
anything that's not this
and we–
no we don't have it easy
no we don't have it easy
(Chorus 4)
am I gonna waste away
letting you set the date and the time
don’t know why you’re away
when you should’ve been mine
are we gonna pull through
when you don’t have it easy
you see right through me
why should I expect
any less from someone like you
you’re too reckless
and I should’ve been through with this
cause we don’t have it easy
you see right through me
